Martin “Marty” McRae, August 6, 1964 – January 3, 2026.

Marty McRae passed away very unexpectedly from a short battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on January 3, 2026, at the age of 61. He was deeply loved and is greatly missed by his wife, Lezlee and wonderful supportive friends. Marty was a truly spectacular person—always joining in, a natural group player, and simply wonderful to be around. He had a way of bringing people together and lifting those around him with his presence, humour, and generosity of spirit.

He dedicated his life to public service and helping others. Marty served as a Captain with Toronto Fire Services for 30 years (1984 –2014) as a firefighter and as a valued member of the HUSAR (Heavy Urban Search and Rescue) team. He later continued his career as Deputy Fire Chief for the Township of North Kawartha, and then as Safety and Training Coordinator for the British Columbia Search and Rescue Association. His commitment to service extended well beyond his formal roles. Marty was also a volunteer member of Comox Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR). Firefighting and rescue work were truly in his blood, and he remained actively involved—always willing to help, advise, and support others with training and mentorship. Marty will be remembered for his leadership, dedication, kindness, and team spirit. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the countless people he trained, supported, and inspired.

A celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and details will follow
