The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Memorial is a solemn reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty. It’s a place where families, friends, and colleagues can come together to honor their memory and find a sense of closure and peace. The tradition of inscribing names on the Memorial Wall and presenting the IAFF Medal and Flag is a poignant tribute to these heroes.
The Retired Toronto Fire Fighters Association was handed several IAFF items which for one reason, or another did not make it to the families of the fallen.
On September 18th, 2024, I had the privilege of presenting the IAFF Medal to Kaylie, the daughter of Bob Chrisp. We took a moment to reminisce about Bob, his infectious smile, his sharp wit, and his dedicated years at Hall #15. Bob’s passion for firefighting and his memory will always be cherished.
Times such as these are touching examples of the brotherhood and support within the firefighting community. These gestures ensure that the valor and service of the fallen are forever remembered and that a grateful community supports their families. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit and camaraderie that defines the firefighting profession.
I want to thank Cliff Rohdes for his help in making this happen.
Fraternally,
Chuck West
