The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Memorial is a solemn reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty. It’s a place where families, friends, and colleagues can come together to honor their memory and find a sense of closure and peace. The tradition of inscribing names on the Memorial Wall and presenting the IAFF Medal and Flag is a poignant tribute to these heroes.
Recently the Retired Toronto Fire Fighters Association was handed several IAFF items which for one reason, or another did not make it to the families of the fallen.
On August 27th. Chuck West and Al Thomas made the journey to Gravenhurst to deliver the IAFF flag to Susan and Jim Edwards, the daughter, and son-in-law of Robert (Ted) Barnes and is a touching example of the brotherhood and support within the firefighting community. These gestures ensure that the valor and service of the fallen are forever remembered and that a grateful community supports their families. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit and camaraderie that defines the firefighting profession.
We would like to thank Matt Brierly for his help in making this happen.
While the list is getting shorter we are still hoping to get the IAFF medal to Bob Chrisp’s family. If anyone can help us contact them it would be appreciated.
Fraternally,
Chuck West
