Robert “Rob” Carey Obituary

Rob passed away unexpectedly at the age of 65 years.  Loved and missed by his wife Lisa and his children Danielle (Andrew), Eric and Ben. Cherished grandpa of Deegan, Tate and Gwen.  Survived by his mother Mary Angeline (late father Val), brothers Richard (Blanche) and Ron (June) and by his many nieces and nephews. Also remembered by his mother-in-law Marie and father-in-law Raymond.

He served Toronto Fire in Scarborough for 32 dedicated years. When he was not saving lives, he loved being with his family, tinkering in his shop, riding his motorcycle and travelling. He especially loved to travel with his brothers and their families. Rob played hockey for his whole life, he loved the thrill of the game and sharing a cold one with his friends in the dressing room.  Rob had a passion for life, always up for an adventure as a true free spirit.  He loved to share these adventures and memories in front of a fire or by the pool. For those that knew him, they would say he was charismatic “one of a kind” and “they broke the mould.” He had a way with his words and with people.

We aspire to honour his legacy by living life to the fullest everyday:

“We’re here for a good time

 not a long time

 so have a good time

 the sun can’t shine everyday.”

Trooper

The immediate family will be honouring Rob’s memory with a private ceremony entrusted to Low & Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge Chapel.

Firefighter Rob Carey (#652) ~ 1960 – 2025

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our brother, Rob Carey (#652). Rob passed away peacefully in his sleep following a courageous battle with cancer.

(L-R) Bill Lewis, Rob Carey, Bill Wattie, Leith Clay (1997)

Rob started with the Scarborough Fire Department in January 1987 and retired from the Toronto Fire Service in 2019 after 32 years of service. Rob served with dedication and pride, qualities that defined both his career and the friendships he built along the way. His loss is felt profoundly across the Scarborough and Toronto Firefighter community.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Rob’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. As additional details become available, we will share them with the membership.

May Rob rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire the camaraderie and service that bind us together.

As Rob’s passing came quickly, and due to the season, Lisa, Eric, and Ben request time before the visitation and memorial service can proceed. All details will be provided as they become available.

Our sincerest condolences go out to Rob’s family and friends from Retired Scarborough Fire Fighters.
